The story

OMODA & JAECOO says its expanded RAC partnership adds a dedicated Vehicle Off Road operation, coordinating recovery, parts and repairs. It also authorises RAC mobile mechanics for selected warranty repairs and recall work at homes or workplaces. This is a manufacturer announcement; it does not promise that every repair can happen at home.

The club view

If your car is awaiting repair, ask who owns the case, when the next update is due, and whether mobile work is appropriate. Request written confirmation of any onward-travel arrangement. Record the dates and outcome so the support experience can be judged against what actually happened.

Support is where the brochure meets reality

Nobody buys a car hoping to become an expert in repair case numbers. The attractive part of this announcement is the prospect of clearer coordination when something goes wrong. The fair test is what happens in practice: who calls, what is agreed and whether the promised next update actually arrives.

Ask for a plan, not a prediction

If you need help, ask for a named point of contact or case reference, the next update date and a written explanation of the proposed work. Ask which arrangements apply to your case before assuming a replacement car or mobile repair is available. A diary of dates and responses is more useful than an inbox full of “any news?” messages, although we understand the temptation.

What we want owners to tell us

The club wants the good outcomes as well as the frustrating ones. A repair handled promptly deserves the same visibility as a long wait. Tell the story with dates, distinguish what was promised from what happened and update it when the car is back. An announcement is the starting line; owner experience tells us about the journey.

What would make this a genuine improvement?

From an owner’s point of view, a good support process is not necessarily one in which the car is fixed instantly. Some jobs take time. What matters is knowing what has been established, what happens next and which promises are realistic. Clear communication cannot replace a repair, but it can stop a difficult week turning into a mystery novel with no final chapter. We will be interested in reports describing both the practical outcome and the communication along the way. A short, successful repair deserves recording too. Otherwise a support discussion can become a collection of difficult cases that tells us very little about the overall experience.
