The story
OMODA & JAECOO’s 21 October announcement describes a driver-assistance demonstration in Paris on 12 October, using a JAECOO 7 development vehicle equipped with Momenta technology. The company says a safety driver monitored the journey and the vehicle remains in testing and validation.
The club view
Interesting development work deserves attention, but owners need an answer to a different question: what is approved and supported on the car they actually drive? A demonstration and a dated release notice serve different purposes. This report keeps that distinction visible.
What the manufacturer says happened
The announcement calls the Arc de Triomphe demonstration a zero-takeover “L2++” challenge. It describes a Momenta R7 World Model-equipped test car negotiating the roundabout and nearby streets. Those performance statements are the manufacturer’s account, not findings from a Club road test.
The event date is 12 October 2026; the release was published on 21 October. Our report was published on 23 October. The source describes future European introduction, without establishing UK availability.
Is this an update for my UK JAECOO 7?
We have no UK model-applicability list, approved installation instructions or customer release timetable to report. Do not use this story as a reason to install a software file or assume that a feature has appeared on your car.
For an existing vehicle, start with the exact model, powertrain and module. Our UK software-update resource explains how to record complete version strings and ask the service centre what applies. A phone-app update, an infotainment change and a vehicle-control campaign need not be the same thing.
A demonstration does not change the driver’s responsibilities
The Highway Code introduction distinguishes assisted driving from self-driving. With assisted-driving features, the driver remains responsible for driving at all times. The Code’s separate description of self-driving vehicles refers to vehicles listed by the Secretary of State, rather than a marketing label or an overseas demonstration.
Follow the instructions for your own vehicle and remain attentive. Do not try to reproduce a filmed manoeuvre or test the limits of an assistance system on the public road. A striking headline cannot tell you which functions your car supports.
The useful questions to ask before any future release
- Which UK model years, powertrains and hardware versions would be eligible?
- What functions would be supplied, and under which road, weather and operating conditions?
- What would the driver need to monitor or do, and where are those instructions documented?
- Would installation be a dealer procedure or an officially supported remote update?
- What written confirmation would show the work carried out on an individual vehicle?
These are questions for future documentation, not a list of features promised here. Keep dated service records using our warranty and service-record guide. If a current assistance behaviour concerns you, record the circumstances and seek a proper inspection; this development story does not diagnose it.
Keep future technology separate from today’s buying decision
Compare the documented equipment of the actual UK vehicle you are considering in our JAECOO 7 model guide. Ask for a demonstration of its supported functions and a written specification before ordering.
For everyday controls and warning behaviour, use the J7 settings guide alongside the correct handbook. The sensible next milestone for this technology is attributable UK customer documentation. Until that exists, its effect on an existing owner’s car remains unconfirmed.
