Could JAECOO move its brand headquarters to London?

London is being discussed as a possible international home for the JAECOO brand. The original reporting points to an idea under consideration, with no confirmed move or timetable.

The story

A possible London headquarters would be a significant development for JAECOO’s relationship with Britain. But the important word is possible. The reporting concerns where the brand could be managed internationally, rather than an announcement of a new factory or a completed office move.

The club view

This deserves attention because a brand’s decision-making location can matter to its future direction. Owners should judge the proposal by the responsibilities, investment and customer outcomes eventually delivered. A London address alone would not answer a warranty claim or improve a car’s software.

What has actually been reported?

REPORTED PROPOSAL · reviewed 1 November 2026.

London has been raised as a possible JAECOO brand headquarters. We have not verified a final decision, chosen premises, staffing commitment or relocation timetable.

Richard Edwards’s original Inside China Auto report, published 22 October, attributes the discussion to Zhang Guibing, executive vice president of Chery Auto and president of Chery International, at a Wuhu media roundtable during the Chery Group User Summit.

In that account, the idea sits within a wider ambition to base individual brands in different countries and give their teams greater responsibility. The proposed location is London; it is not presented as a completed relocation.

Alborz Fallah’s CarExpert account, published on 31 October in Australia (30 October at 21:00 UTC), also reports the London possibility and the absence of a timetable. This is later reporting of executive remarks, not evidence of a new London opening on 1 November.

Brand headquarters, UK office or factory: why the distinction matters

The phrase headquarters can cover very different jobs. A national sales office serves one market. An international brand headquarters could coordinate decisions across several markets. A design centre develops a vehicle’s appearance and design direction; an engineering base tests and develops its systems. A factory builds vehicles.

The London reporting concerns the JAECOO brand. It does not establish that Chery Group as a whole will move to Britain, that all engineering would leave China, or that an existing UK office has been selected for a new international role. The final scope of any London operation remains open.

For background on the relationship between the marque and its parent group, see who makes JAECOO. That brand explainer covers ownership; this dated report follows a proposed future location.

How does this fit with Chery’s other British plans?

There is also a separate proposal for a Chery design headquarters in Britain. Auto Express’s chairman interview reports that ambition; it does not name a completed relocation. Our updated UK design, engineering and Sunderland analysis explains the evidence for each strand.

Keep the milestones separate. A decision about brand management would not automatically settle a design-centre location, confirm the operational status of Millbrook, or turn the Nissan–Chery Sunderland study into a production contract. Those projects need their own announcements and evidence.

What could it mean for JAECOO owners?

Our assessment is that a substantial British decision-making team could make local customer priorities easier to communicate within the brand. Whether that happens depends on the authority and staff assigned to it, rather than the address on a building.

For an existing owner, the proposal itself changes no published warranty entitlement, service interval or repair instruction. It contains no verified promise of parts arriving sooner, a software update for a particular vehicle, or a rise in resale value. Keep using your dealer and the documented service and warranty process for a current issue.

For a buyer, separate the long-term investment story from the car available today. Compare the actual J7 range, equipment, finance terms and support arrangements on your order. A possible headquarters should not substitute for checking those details.

What would turn the proposal into a confirmed move?

The useful next evidence would be a formal company announcement setting out the decision, responsibilities, location and implementation date. A clear explanation of which international functions would sit in London would make the term brand headquarters meaningful.

Staff appointments or premises announcements could help establish progress, but each would still need checking for what it actually confirms. An ordinary UK office listing would not, on its own, establish a global brand relocation.

We will retain this article’s original publication date when substantive evidence warrants an update. Until then, the accurate description is a reported London headquarters proposal.

This article is based on the original written roundtable reporting linked above. We have not independently interviewed the executives or reviewed a recording. No final relocation announcement was verified in this review.

Source dates belong to the reporting; the Club published this explanation on 1 November 2026. The separate UK design-headquarters proposal is attributed to Tom Jervis’s Auto Express interview, whose page displays 26 October.

The cover combines two genuine photographs: Alexandre Prevot’s J7 SHS-P photograph (CC BY-SA 4.0) and London, photo by DAVID ILIFF (CC BY-SA 3.0). The car background was extracted with image-editing assistance, then the photographs were cropped and composed with Club typography. The combined adaptation is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0. It illustrates the subject; it does not show a real JAECOO headquarters, London vehicle location or exact UK specification.
