“It happened again” is hard to investigate. A short record of what you observed, when it happened and the conditions gives your retailer something more concrete to work with.
Capture observations, not a diagnosis
Record your model, powertrain, mileage, date and software version if you can find it in the handbook. Describe the exact message or behaviour. Note whether it happened at startup, while parked or during a journey, and whether it has repeated.
Only photograph or record controls when safely parked. Do not try to recreate a problem that could affect safe driving.
Use this club report template
Vehicle: model, powertrain, year and mileage
Observed issue: exact behaviour or warning
When: date, frequency and conditions
Expected result: what should have happened
Evidence: safe photos, screenshots or dated notes
Already tried: handbook-approved actions only
Retailer response: booking or case reference and next step
Keep a timeline
Contact the retailer with the report and keep the job sheet, diagnosis and any agreed follow-up. The Motor Ombudsman explains that a warranty claim normally starts with a dealer diagnostic appointment; the applicable warranty document sets out the process.
When discussing it publicly, remove your VIN, registration, contact information and other people’s personal details. Update the report with the eventual outcome. An owner report is evidence of an individual experience, not proof of a model-wide fault.
Send a private report to the club
Ready to share a dated experience or repair follow-up? Open the structured Report a Fault form. Record the car, symptoms, repair and outcome, with optional private supporting files. Anonymous publication is a separate choice; submissions are reviewed and do not automatically become verified faults or reliability statistics.
No fault to report? Share a trouble-free ownership update. Keep any retailer case moving separately; the club form is not a warranty claim.
