How to change the JAECOO 8 speed warning

Change JAECOO 8 SLA and speed-limit-change alerts using the UK manual. Understand separate overspeed settings and what Icon-only means.

The J8 handbook lists SLA, a speed-limit-change alert and an overspeed warning separately. Changing the limit-change sound does not necessarily silence the warning for exceeding a limit.

Supported models and trims

JAECOO 8 SHS-P: Luxury / Executive, subject to the seat and equipment qualifications below

UK manual review; not a hands-on vehicle test. A missing menu may reflect equipment or software; this guide does not promise a feature can be enabled.

Before you begin

Park safely before changing settings. Match the powertrain, equipment and screen layout to the handbook for your own car. A manual describes possible equipment; it is not confirmation that every UK trim has it.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Park with the vehicle in READY and open the audio system’s Vehicle Setting area, then Driver Assistance.
  2. Locate Speed limit assist (SLA). Use its ON/OFF setting if you intend to disable or enable that function.
  3. For the alert that announces a changed limit, use speed limit change alert mode: Icon or Icon + Sound. Icon is documented for this change alert; the manual does not establish it as an audio-only mute for every overspeed warning.
  4. Check Overspeed warning separately if that is the alert you are hearing. The handbook lists an ON/OFF control.
  5. Confirm the displayed state before driving and check it again at the next start.

Why the handbook uses two names

The settings chapter calls the function SLA, while the driving chapter describes Intelligent active speed limiting (ISLC), marked if equipped. This guide retains the settings labels you need to look for. The sentence about a configurable overspeed threshold is internally awkward, so this guide does not prescribe a threshold-setting sequence.

Troubleshooting

  • The wrong limit appears: check the real signs. Clean the windscreen camera area as the handbook directs; report repeated misrecognition with the road, direction, displayed limit and software version.
  • A beep remains: read the message. A speed-limit-change alert, a set-speed overspeed alarm and a recognised-limit warning are different functions.
  • The setting returns: check it again after the next start. These handbook sections do not establish a permanent-off setting for every software version.

Safety and limitations

  • Keep to the actual road speed limit even if the display shows a different limit or the warning is muted.
  • Set preferences while parked. A speed-warning setting is not the same as cruise control or an active speed limiter.
  • The camera and navigation information can be affected by obscured signs, weather, lighting and map information. Do not test the alarm by deliberately exceeding a limit.
