Collection day should feel exciting, not rushed. Take your order confirmation and a short question list, and give yourself time to check the car while it is still at the retailer.
Before collection
Confirm the appointment, agreed model, trim, powertrain, colour and any accessories. Ask what documents you need, how any balance is settled and what is included with the car. Arrange your insurance for the collection time and confirm the vehicle-tax arrangements.
Work through the car together
- Match the car to your order and record the VIN and mileage.
- Inspect paint, glass, wheels and interior in good light.
- Check both keys and the accessories promised in your agreement.
- Locate the supplied puncture equipment and any locking-wheel-nut key.
- Ask for a demonstration of mirrors, lights, wipers, demisting, parking controls and warning messages.
- For a plug-in car, confirm the supplied cable and practise connecting and releasing it using the handbook procedure.
Before you sign and leave
Read the invoice and handover documents. Ask for the service schedule, warranty information, roadside-support details and the correct manual. Confirm the fuel or charge available for your journey. If something is missing or damaged, get a written record of it and the agreed next step before leaving.
Our club suggestion: take dated photographs and send yourself a short collection note. It makes later questions much easier to explain.
