The JAECOO 5 handbook calls the recognised-limit warning Speed Limit Assist (SLA). It confirms that SLA can be adjusted in the audio system, but does not document a complete tap-by-tap route or the available mute choices. Here is what you can check without borrowing instructions from another model.
Supported models and trims
JAECOO 5 petrol: Pure / Luxury, only where the described equipment is fitted
UK manual review; not a hands-on vehicle test. A missing menu may reflect equipment or software; this guide does not promise a feature can be enabled.
Before you begin
Park safely before changing settings. Match the powertrain, equipment and screen layout to the handbook for your own car. A manual describes possible equipment; it is not confirmation that every UK trim has it.
Step-by-step instructions
- Park, switch the vehicle on and open the centre screen’s vehicle-setting area. The manual identifies a Vehicle setting button in its Audio View section.
- Look for a control explicitly labelled Speed Limit Assist or SLA. The SLA section says the function is set in the audio system; the January 2026 settings list does not locate that control precisely.
- If the control is present, use only the labelled options shown on your car. If it is absent or unclear, stop here and ask the retailer to demonstrate the correct control for your software. There is no verified universal “mute” sequence in this manual.
- Check the resulting display while stationary, and check the preference again at the next start.
What the handbook actually confirms
SLA is marked if equipped. It combines detected signs and navigation information. The January 2026 text describes one sound when speed exceeds the recognised limit by 5 km/h; that description is not permission to exceed the limit and is not a guaranteed threshold on every software release.
Troubleshooting
- The wrong limit appears: check the real signs. Clean the windscreen camera area as the handbook directs; report repeated misrecognition with the road, direction, displayed limit and software version.
- A beep remains: read the message. A speed-limit-change alert, a set-speed overspeed alarm and a recognised-limit warning are different functions.
- The setting returns: check it again after the next start. These handbook sections do not establish a permanent-off setting for every software version.
Safety and limitations
- Keep to the actual road speed limit even if the display shows a different limit or the warning is muted.
- Set preferences while parked. A speed-warning setting is not the same as cruise control or an active speed limiter.
- The camera and navigation information can be affected by obscured signs, weather, lighting and map information. Do not test the alarm by deliberately exceeding a limit.
