Servicing is less glamorous than a panoramic roof, but rather more useful when something needs putting right. Keep the schedule, the quotation and the evidence together; future you will appreciate the paperwork.
Intervals: find your exact schedule
Peter Cooper’s published maintenance menu uses 10,000-mile/12-month steps for J5 petrol, E5 (labelled J5 BEV), J7 petrol and hybrids, and J8 PHEV. Treat that as a useful retailer reference, not a substitute for the service requirements attached to your car. Ask whether demanding use changes any inspection or fluid interval.
Book against the earlier date or mileage point, allowing time for availability. A dashboard reminder is helpful, but it does not replace the written schedule. A used car needs a check of what was completed, not simply a reassuring number of stamps.
What does a service cost? Real examples, with limits
At our 3 October 2026 check, Peter Cooper listed a first service at £262.75 for J7 petrol, J7 PHEV/HEV and J8 PHEV. Its third-service examples were £489.58 for J7 petrol and £538.15 for J7 PHEV/HEV and J8 PHEV. These are one retailer’s menu prices, not a national average or a quote for your vehicle. Confirm VAT, labour, materials and any additions.
Compare the work, not just the headline. Ask which filters, fluids, plugs and inspections are included at that interval, which are extra, and what approval is required before additional work. For a prepaid plan, check covered visits, mileage assumptions, exclusions, cancellation and whether it transfers if you sell.
Can an independent garage service it without losing the warranty?
Using an independent garage for non-warranty maintenance does not automatically justify cancelling the entire manufacturer warranty. The CMA’s motor-vehicle guidance distinguishes that situation from a claim caused by incorrect work or a failed third-party part, which may legitimately be refused. The facts of a particular claim still matter.
Choose a garage able to follow the manufacturer’s procedures for your exact powertrain, record the work and use the required parts and fluid specifications. Ask for itemised invoices, dated mileage records and part specifications. Warranty repairs and manufacturer campaigns are separate from ordinary servicing; confirm the authorised route before commissioning work. See the warranty guide for the policy limits and records checklist.
Consumables: the jobs between services
Check tyres, pressures, lights, washer fluid and visible damage as your handbook directs. Use the tyre label and handbook for loading and towing pressures; do not borrow a number from another owner’s different wheels. Tyres, brakes and wipers need attention based on condition, not just a calendar reminder.
A plug-in car still has an engine and associated maintenance. An electric car still needs tyres, braking, cabin filtration and other scheduled checks. Avoid the tempting leap from “less petrol used” to “nothing to service”. High-voltage work belongs with appropriately trained technicians.
Parts, delays and keeping mobile
JAECOO’s official parts page directs owners to its authorised retailer network. That tells you where to enquire, not how long a particular component will take to arrive. We do not have a measured UK club average for parts lead times.
For a delayed repair, request the diagnosis, part number, order date, whether a delivery estimate is confirmed and the date of the next update. Record days without the car and any replacement-transport agreement. Submit the eventual outcome through Report a Fault; a resolved case is useful evidence too.
Roadside cover and a simple records folder
The official roadside page links continued assistance to servicing with JAECOO, subject to its terms. Do not assume an independent service renews that separate benefit. Ask for written confirmation of cover dates and arrange alternative cover if needed.
Keep the purchase specification, schedule, invoices, warranty correspondence and roadside details together. After each visit, record date, mileage, work completed and the next due point. Check that software or recall work promised on the job sheet was actually recorded. Our roadside details checklist helps you prepare before a breakdown.
