Driver Monitoring System (DMS) uses a cabin camera to look for fatigue or distraction. The supplied manuals say it can be switched off on the centre screen and is enabled again at each start. A timed fatigue reminder is a different setting.

Supported models and trims

JAECOO 5 petrol: Pure / Luxury, only where the described equipment is fitted; JAECOO E5 electric: Pure / Luxury, only where the described equipment is fitted; JAECOO 7 petrol: Deluxe / Luxury, only where the described equipment is fitted; JAECOO 7 SHS/PHEV: Luxury / Black Luxury SHS-P, and earlier PHEV versions with the described equipment; this is not an SHS-H guide; JAECOO 8 SHS-P: Luxury / Executive, subject to the seat and equipment qualifications below

UK manual review; not a hands-on vehicle test. A missing menu may reflect equipment or software; this guide does not promise a feature can be enabled.

Before you begin

Park safely before changing settings. Match the powertrain, equipment and screen layout to the handbook for your own car. A manual describes possible equipment; it is not confirmation that every UK trim has it.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. If you are tired or distracted, stop somewhere safe and deal with that first. Silencing the alert does not make it safe to continue.
  2. While parked, power on the car and open its centre-screen settings. Use the model-specific control below.
  3. Change the DMS or driver-monitoring reminder setting only if it is clearly labelled on your screen. Do not change an unrelated timed reminder and assume DMS is off.
  4. Read any camera-blocked or fault message. Remove an accidental obstruction without covering, modifying or disabling the camera.
  5. Expect DMS to be enabled again at the next vehicle start; the supplied manuals explicitly describe this behaviour.

Find the correct control

Model / manualDocumented setting
J5 petrol, January 2026DMS is if equipped. The DMS chapter allows manual switch-off on the head unit but does not provide its full menu route. The separate Fatigue driving reminder (hours) is not proof of a DMS switch.
E5, March 2026Vehicle setting → Driver assistance: Driver monitoring system alarm ON/OFF.
J7 petrol, July 2025Driver assistance: Driver fatigue monitoring reminder ON/OFF.
J7 SHS, February 2026DMS is if equipped; its chapter says it can be switched off on the head unit. A full path or named DMS control is not given in the settings summary.
J7 PHEV, October 2024DMS chapter confirms head-unit switch-off, without a complete named route.
J8, December 2025Vehicle Setting → Driver Assistance: Driver monitoring system (DMS) ON/OFF. DMS is if equipped.

If there is no DMS switch

Do not use an instruction from another model or hide the camera. Ask the retailer to identify the control for your car and software. A missing control does not establish that a software update will add it.

What the warning means

The manuals describe separate fatigue and distraction alerts and a self-check at power-on. They also state that facial information is processed without being stored or used for personal identification; this is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent privacy audit.

Troubleshooting

  • A timed alert continues: a journey-duration fatigue reminder can be separate from camera-based DMS. Read the actual message.
  • Camera blocked: check for an accidental obstruction and follow the handbook. Do not cover it as a workaround.
  • Abnormal-system indication: book inspection rather than assuming the alert is simply nuisance behaviour.
  • Off yesterday, on today: restart activation is explicitly documented.

Safety and limitations

  • Make changes while parked. Stay attentive even when the system is enabled; it is an aid, not a measure of whether you are fit to drive.
  • Do not defeat sensors, coding or wiring. Use only the controls provided by the vehicle.
