The February 2026 J7 SHS handbook documents key-based remote start with automatic air conditioning and a ten-minute timer. It also describes an extension that should not be assumed on every earlier car.
Supported models and trims

UK manual review; not a hands-on vehicle test. A missing menu may reflect equipment or software; this guide does not promise a feature can be enabled.
Before you begin
Park safely before changing settings. Match the powertrain, equipment and screen layout to the handbook for your own car. A manual describes possible equipment; it is not confirmation that every UK trim has it.
Step-by-step instructions
- Park outdoors in a safe place, switch off and make sure nobody is inside. Close the doors and windows and arm the vehicle using the smart key.
- Keep the key outside the car and within its normal operating range. The February 2026 text gives 20 metres; obstacles and interference can reduce effective range.
- Hold the Lock or remote-start button for several seconds. Automatic air conditioning starts with remote mode.
- Expect a ten-minute session. On the February 2026 specification, pressing Lock or remote start again during that session adds ten minutes; the manual limits remote starts to two before power must be turned to ON again.
- To drive, enter carrying the key and press the brake to leave remote mode.
Earlier PHEV manual
The October 2024 handbook also documents hold-Lock/remote-start operation, a ten-minute timeout, brake-pedal takeover and a two-start limit. It does not explicitly document the newer extension behaviour. If you have that earlier interface, do not rely on an extra button press extending the session.
Hybrid does not mean exhaust-free
Do not assume that selecting EV before parking prevents engine operation later. Choose an open-air location for remote conditioning, away from occupied enclosed spaces.
Troubleshooting
- No response: check that the car is locked/armed, the smart key is outside it and within normal operating range. Confirm the function is fitted.
- Controls seem unavailable: some audio, wiper and lighting controls are limited in remote mode. Enter with the smart key and press the brake as the manual directs.
- Air conditioning stops: check the model’s timeout. A timed shutdown by itself is not a fault.
- Still unavailable: use normal starting and ask the retailer to check the key, vehicle messages and equipment; do not repeatedly improvise button sequences.
Safety and limitations
- Start remotely only with nobody in the vehicle, including the operator; this is an explicit handbook condition.
- Keep the vehicle in view and secured in a suitable safe location. Remote start is not permission to leave children or animals inside.
- For petrol and plug-in hybrids, use an open-air location clear of doors, windows and air intakes: the engine may run. Never use in a garage or enclosed space.
- Follow local restrictions on stationary engine use. Remote operation is for conditioning the vehicle, not remote driving.
