The J8 manual documents remote starting as “if equipped”. Its automatic air-conditioning session lasts fifteen minutes, rather than the ten minutes stated in the J5, E5 and J7 manuals.
Supported models and trims
JAECOO 8 SHS-P: Luxury / Executive, subject to the seat and equipment qualifications below
UK manual review; not a hands-on vehicle test. A missing menu may reflect equipment or software; this guide does not promise a feature can be enabled.
Before you begin
Park safely before changing settings. Match the powertrain, equipment and screen layout to the handbook for your own car. A manual describes possible equipment; it is not confirmation that every UK trim has it.
Step-by-step instructions
- Park safely outdoors and switch off. Make sure nobody remains in the vehicle.
- Close the doors and windows, lock/arm the car and keep the smart key outside it. Stay within normal operating range; the manual quotes 20 metres.
- Hold the Lock or dedicated remote-start button, as fitted, for several seconds. The manual does not give an exact hold duration.
- Air conditioning operates automatically. The vehicle powers off automatically after fifteen minutes of remote starting.
- To take over, enter with the smart key and press the brake pedal, exiting remote mode and restoring normal controls.
Do not borrow the J7 extension sequence
The cited J8 section does not describe the J7 SHS’s ten-minute extension or a two-start quota. This guide therefore gives the documented J8 session and takeover procedure only. Confirm availability for your specific vehicle even if the key appears similar.
Troubleshooting
- No response: check that the car is locked/armed, the smart key is outside it and within normal operating range. Confirm the function is fitted.
- Controls seem unavailable: some audio, wiper and lighting controls are limited in remote mode. Enter with the smart key and press the brake as the manual directs.
- Air conditioning stops: check the model’s timeout. A timed shutdown by itself is not a fault.
- Still unavailable: use normal starting and ask the retailer to check the key, vehicle messages and equipment; do not repeatedly improvise button sequences.
Safety and limitations
- Start remotely only with nobody in the vehicle, including the operator; this is an explicit handbook condition.
- Keep the vehicle in view and secured in a suitable safe location. Remote start is not permission to leave children or animals inside.
- For petrol and plug-in hybrids, use an open-air location clear of doors, windows and air intakes: the engine may run. Never use in a garage or enclosed space.
- Follow local restrictions on stationary engine use. Remote operation is for conditioning the vehicle, not remote driving.
