JAECOO E5: free home charger or £1,000 charging credit—what to check

What is being offered?

JAECOO UK’s published terms describe a choice: an untethered Octopus Charge unit with standard fitting, supported up to £1,029, or £1,000 in Electroverse credit. The rewards are alternatives, with no cash substitute.

The current page leads with the E5, also described as JAECOO 5 EV. Confirm the exact ordered vehicle and participating retailer before relying on the offer. We have not established current J7 eligibility from this page, and we are not treating older search snippets as an extension to other models.

The referral date is not a promised order deadline

Before paying a deposit, ask who will submit the information, which reward will be recorded and how you will know it has been accepted. Keep the referral acknowledgement with your order documents. If collection is delayed, ask the retailer to confirm how the timing affects the reward rather than relying on a verbal “it should be fine”.

Who needs to check eligibility especially carefully?

The published offer excludes fleet, employee and Motability customers and locations outside its stated Great Britain scope. Completed orders are required. The conditions also address business addresses, existing home chargers and installation suitability; cancellation after a reward has been supplied can create a repayment liability.

Those conditions deserve a vehicle-specific answer. In particular, do not assume an existing charger or a lack of suitable home parking automatically makes you eligible for the credit alternative. Ask the retailer and Octopus to confirm your circumstances in writing. Do not interpret a choice of reward as a waiver of the eligibility rules.

Home charger: compare the actual installation quote

“Standard installation” is a defined scope, not a promise that every property can be fitted at no extra cost. The offer terms allow approved additional charges for work beyond the allowance or a different charger. Read the linked Octopus installation terms and obtain the proposed work and any extra amount before agreeing.

• Where will the unit go, and can the cable reach the normal parking position without creating an obstruction?
• What route, electrical work and permissions does the quote assume?
• What equipment, cable and follow-up support are included?
• What happens if the survey changes the price or the installation cannot proceed?

Public-charging credit: test it against your routes

A credit balance is useful only if the available charging locations fit your routine. Check the Electroverse locations you would actually use and request the credit’s redemption, expiry and usage conditions. Do not translate a cash-value headline into a guaranteed number of miles.

A short checklist before ordering

1. Get written confirmation that your exact vehicle, retailer and customer category qualify.
2. Record the selected reward and the order, registration and referral requirements.
3. For installation, obtain the survey, scope and any extra charges before approval.
4. For credit, obtain the redemption process and full usage conditions.
5. Keep the acceptance, cancellation provisions and contact details with the vehicle paperwork.
