The story

Recall R/2026/299 was launched on 5 August 2026. We verified the official DVSA CSV on 15 October, after accessing it through the regulator’s browser service. This is coverage of an existing safety campaign, not a newly announced recall.

The club view

Check the campaign against your own car, even if a previous wiring recall was completed. The retailer can confirm the VIN-specific repair record; this article cannot.

What is the safety concern?

DVSA describes incorrect routing of the driver’s seat wiring harness on specified vehicles. Over time the wiring may wear or become damaged. Possible consequences include failed seat adjustment, warning lights, inability to change gear and, rarely, unexpected engine stalling while driving, increasing collision risk.

These are potential consequences in the recall notice, not a claim that every affected car has experienced them. A warning light alone cannot diagnose this particular fault.

Which J7 versions and production batches are listed?

The five official rows sum to 4,933 vehicles: 874 petrol and 4,059 plug-in hybrids. This is our arithmetic total of the listed batches, not a count of outstanding repairs or reported failures. The CSV does not establish how many cars have already had the work completed.

DVSA labels the models “JAECOO 7 ICE” and “JAECOO 7 ICE PHEV”. Do not extend those entries to every J7, or infer SHS-H applicability. Build dates are manufacturing dates, not registration dates. Confirm the individual vehicle with the retailer even if its dates appear to match.

What will the retailer do?

The official remedy is inspection of the driver’s seat harness and its condition. Where needed, the harness is rerouted and damaged insulation repaired. The manufacturer reference is TUB-2608.039.01.

The official vehicle-checker page says owners do not pay for work involving the recall. Ask the retailer to confirm the appointment, expected work and any transport arrangements; we have not verified a standard repair duration or courtesy-car entitlement.

What should owners do now?

Use the official GOV.UK recall service and contact an authorised JAECOO retailer. Give the retailer your VIN privately and ask specifically about R/2026/299 and whether it is open or completed on your car. Keep the dated job sheet.

If the car loses normal drive or gear selection, or displays an instruction to stop, stop as safely as possible and seek professional assistance. Do not deliberately recreate a fault or try rerouting wiring yourself. Ask the retailer for vehicle-specific advice about driving while awaiting an appointment.

How is this different from the March recall?

R/2026/069 concerns an ECU wiring-harness clip on specified petrol J7s. R/2026/299 concerns driver’s-seat wiring and includes specified plug-in hybrids. Completion of one campaign is not evidence that the other is complete.

See the J7 problems and reliability guide and fault tracker. A manually verified recall record does not mean the tracker’s daily download has resumed; its source-status notices remain relevant.
