A brochure measures litres. Your family owns a pushchair, a suitcase with a stubborn handle and probably one bag nobody mentioned until departure. This guide puts the dimensions beside the checks that matter.
The current UK dimensions
| Measurement | Current UK specification |
|---|---|
| Length | 4,820 mm |
| Width, excluding mirrors | 1,930 mm |
| Height | 1,710 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,820 mm |
| Boot, seats in use | 200 litres (all three rows) |
| Boot, seats folded | 738 litres (third row folded) |
Manufacturer volumes depend on measurement method and seat position. Earlier reviews quote different boot capacities; test the actual car with your luggage. Mirror-inclusive width has not been verified here.

The numbers above come from the same stored specification data used by our related buying guides. They are not measurements taken by the club. A width excluding mirrors is especially easy to misuse: it is not the gap required to drive into a garage with mirrors extended.
Why boot figures disagree
Our source check found earlier reviews using 110 litres for the J8 with all rows in use, while the current official table gives the figures above. We have not independently established whether the difference is measurement method, configuration, model revision or an error. We therefore identify the conflict instead of averaging the numbers.
Ask what the volume includes: underfloor storage, loading to a cover or roof, seat position and whether all required seats remain usable. Then try the items you carry. A larger quoted volume can still have an opening or floor shape that suits your luggage less well.
Parking and garage checks
- Measure the narrowest opening, including hinges, pillars and protruding storage.
- Measure the actual car with mirrors in the positions you will use; ask about visibility and safe access before relying on folded mirrors.
- Allow space to open doors and help passengers in, not just enough room to park.
- Check tailgate clearance under the garage door or low roof, following the vehicle’s operating instructions.
- Try your normal parking manoeuvre on the test drive where safe and permitted.
Cameras can help locate an obstacle, but they do not make the bodywork smaller. Leave a sensible margin for the day you arrive home tired in the rain.
Passengers and seat layout
| UK version | Powertrain / drive | Seats | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury | 1.5T SHS-P · AWD | 7 | Three rows in a 5+2 layout, with a folding second-row bench. |
| Executive | 1.5T SHS-P · AWD | 6 | Three rows in a 4+2 layout, with separate second-row captain’s chairs. |

Try the Luxury bench and Executive captain’s chairs with your normal passenger group. Check third-row access with any child seats installed in approved positions, and check how adults get out again. A quick climb into an empty showroom car is a different test from loading a full family. See our trim decision guide.
Use the correct handbook for child-restraint compatibility and installation. Do not infer ISOFIX positions, airbag rules or safe restraint combinations from a photograph.
A ten-minute boot test
Bring the awkward items: folded pushchair, dog crate, mobility aid or the cases used on your longest regular trip. Set the seats to the positions required by the passengers. Check the opening width, loading lip, floor height and whether you can lift the item comfortably.
Try closing the tailgate gently with the load secured; do not use the powered tailgate to compress luggage. Check where the charging lead will live without unloading everything at a public charger. Identify proper luggage securing points and keep loose heavy objects out of passenger areas, following the handbook.
If you need seats folded for a bulky load, ask the retailer to demonstrate the sequence and the resulting floor. Do not assume every trim produces the same flat space. Count the seats that remain usable afterwards.
Practicality includes weight as well as space
A car can run out of permitted payload before it runs out of visible room. Passengers, accessories and luggage all matter; towing adds further checks. Use the vehicle documents for weight limits and our model towing guide if a caravan or trailer is part of the plan.
Our verdict is simple: use dimensions to shortlist, then use your own people and luggage to decide. Owners can submit a dated practicality update describing what fitted, the trim and the seat configuration. That is more useful than an unqualified “massive boot”.
